Nicola’s Selfie with Senior Betty Davies
RUNNER UP
Betty Davies is one of those talented, interesting and independent characters that Alice Springs seems to attract.
Betty and her husband, Stan, fell in love with Central Australia and retired here around 17 years ago.
Despite being a successful and sought-after portrait artist, you won’t find her artworks submitted to any competitions because she says that the nice thing about turning 80 is that she no longer seeks approval.
I look forward to seeing Betty each Wednesday evening at Campfire in the Heart’s regular fire circle, where her warmth, wisdom and honest reflections sometimes bring a tear to my eye.
Betty lives her life in harmony with the source of all creativity, and credits her internal strength to the result of building one’s house on rock, rather than on sand (Matthew 7:24-27).
Betty’s wonderful husband Stan recently passed away, and the love they shared was an inspiration to all who met them. The radiance, resilience and generosity she maintains throughout life’s challenges are a testament to the inner spiritual strength she has cultivated over a lifetime.
Age and wisdom do not always go hand in hand, but in Betty Davies’ case they do. She’s the example of a life well-lived.
