I met Grant under the Todd River bridge in Alice Springs on a quiet morning. I set out hoping to connect with an Aboriginal elder — to listen, learn, and share a meaningful moment.
Grant welcomed me with warmth and generosity, sharing stories of his life growing up in the Northern Territory and his deep connection to culture and Country.
We sat together under the bridge by a fire with members of his community, swapping stories and sharing laughs. Though we had only just met, and we also discussed challenging topics, Grant’s strength, resilience, and kindness left a lasting impression on me.
