RUNNER UP

Some people touch our lives in unforgettable ways. My Nan is one of those people.
Her name is Maggie, but everyone simply calls her, Nan. At 95 her positivity and zest for life inspires everyone she meets. She is living proof age is no barrier to a full and vibrant life.

Nan’s life is a testament to resilience and living with purpose. One of her greatest achievements, at least on my eyes, was fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Africa, which she did in her late 80s. Ever active, Nan had moved from Darwin back to her birthplace in Cornwall at this stage of her life. At 92 her love of family and Darwin drew her back again. She still travels interstate to visit family and friends.

More than my grandmother, Nan is a guiding force in our home, which she shares with her three great grandchildren, my partner and me. I believe her bond with my children, 7, 3 and three months is a vital part of their lives.

Hopefully at 95, like Nan, I will still travel, continue to embrace new experiences and have the privilege of reminding my great grandchildren the values of patience, love and family.
