Sally’s Selfie with Senior Graeme Mott

I was the 11th child born to my parents amongst the other 18 children. Our home on the Murray River had horse wagons, cow sheds and tents. I started work at 13 to help mum support the family (earning 10 shillings a week), and at 15 I started in the navy finishing with 32 years of service. My parents taught me to have good faith and to always tell the truth, which I still carry with me today.

I was a passionate and competitive Jockey competiting in Darwin and had great success. To this day at 86 years of age, I ride my trike to and from the horse stables everry morning before the sun comes up. I live independently at home, cook my own meals, care for my garden, and always have faith in myself to overcome the hard times.

The doctors and nurses asked me how I recovered so well after a recent hospital admission, and I told them, “I have had a wonderful life, I have been through hard and sad times, but I never give up on my faith” “I’m beating all the hard times right to this day”.

“Always have faith and never give up”.
