Natalie’s Selfie with Senior Joseph Beaupellet
Lessons and wisdoms from my Pepe Joe are many!
But mostly, he has instilled in me a sense of adventure, a strong work ethic and to always do what is right. Born in France, grandpa moved to Australia in 1969 at 35 years old, with his 3 daughters and my grandma, with little to no English, but the desire to build a life of opportunity and incredible experiences for his family.
Grandpa was a skilled steel mason and boiler maker, and found work easily, both in the city and working remotely across the Top End and made Darwin their home for almost 30 years.
In the early days, he worked 7 days a week and worked his full time job during the week, and on weekends doing garden maintenance and landscaping. In later years he and my grandma Danielle, ran a successful cleaning business. In 1998, they sold their Darwin house, and caravanned to QLD, settling in the cooler climate of Maleny.
Grandpa turns 90 years old next February. He still keeps everyone on their toes with his sense of humour and quick wit. This photo was taken on my most recent visit in June this year. I am forever grateful for the relationship we have and his unwavering love and support.
